sodaplay_broken_heart_by_oooo.gifSomething serious has happened to the server running Sodaplay.com and Sodarace.net. Soda apologises to everyone looking to play today; we’re working hard to fix the problem as soon as possible.

I don’t know where to put this, as the forums are down right now (got re-directed to here).

Just saying, I put on the NPOV tag on the Wikipedia entry.  Some comments, like this one

This version of the program existed quietly on the soda website, as well as being hosted at another site. At this point, the applet was largely unknown, except to the lucky few who had discovered it already.

Some commments like the one above are highly inappropriate.

How could this happen?
What is wrong right now?

I hope the problem will get fixed as soon as possible.

get it back up quickly.

Comment by jedijedi on 25 July 06 at 10:28 am.

Just an update - the server that hosts sodaplay.com and sodarace.net had trouble with one of its disk partitions. We’ve solved the initial problem and are doing some final checks and backups that may take a few hours, but we will have it back online by the end of today.

To be honest, the server is a fairly antique beast (in internet years) and not in the best of configuration states, but it does run sodaplay and sodarace for us. As both of these projects are having new homes built for them now, and as we have no funder to pay for these sites, we haven’t made uptime and stability for the old server a priority - we just try to keep the old beast going with some TLC occasionally.

Sorry once again to deprive all sodaplay/race fans of their sites.

you could at least tweak it so this never heppens again

Comment by jedi on 25 July 06 at 2:00 pm.

Please hurry up and fix it, you guys.
I have some great ideas. :)

Comment by Talon on 25 July 06 at 2:48 pm.

and maybe we could rig up some group models

Comment by jedi on 25 July 06 at 3:14 pm.

More problems I’m afraid. Just to let you know we’re still working on the site and will let you know once we know more. (ironically these latest problems may have been caused by us redirecting the site to this page as an interim measure...)

Comment by tim on 25 July 06 at 5:20 pm.

could you at least allow us to get to teh sodarace forums

Comment by jedi on 25 July 06 at 6:35 pm.

Comment by Mary on 25 July 06 at 9:39 pm.

phew, i thought you guys didnt like me and BANNED ME!! anyways, it good to know you didnt. ( i had 320+ posts!! lol) anyways i wasnt too worried cuz sodaplaydome was always beside me and most of our active “sodaplayer’s” all meet there and talk about this problem and knew it would be fixed sometime.
and yes ive been on sodaplay for over an year, i have quite a lot of experince w/ it and yeah, even though i only hang around the community disscusion forums, a lot of people still know me. ;)
so its good to know that sodaplay will be fixed, at that time, it was like my LIFE! like i stayed up the whole night untill 3:00 am just for more posts. ( gah! stupid time difference!( i live in China))
and sodaconstructor was always a good friend, it always stretches my imagination to the limit.
i hope sodaplay get fixed :)

bah, came back from holiday, wanted to say hi to the sodaplay folkz, but…

at least I was able to use the local version of SodaConstructor for a while, but it doesn’t start anymore =(

Hope you guys fix it soon!

Comment by Jeffrius on 26 July 06 at 7:43 am.

Okay - it’s fixed. As soon as your upstream DNS resolver updates its entry for sodaplay.com or sodarace.net (in anything from one hour to (worst case) two days - but most likely a few hours) you will see the correct (working) site rather than this one.

Once again, sorry for the outage - most of our resources are focused on sodaplay2, but we will try to prevent it happening again!

Comment by tim on 26 July 06 at 1:21 pm.

Yay, glad you guys got it back working again. I’m working on a site to replace sodaplaycentral and sodaplay being down was not helping matters at all! I’m glad that you all at soda care enough about us soda addicts to spend hours resolving a conflict with a program that is really not benefiting you that much at all.

I can’t get local to work. Ever. Because of this I was kinda worried that I might’ve lost all my work. Thanks for doing all you guys can to keep us from losing our models and such.

Can’t wait until 2.0 comes out, but a zoo update will do for now. *hint hint*

See you all around!

Comment by jedi on 26 July 06 at 7:52 pm.

Comment by sloppy joe on 26 July 06 at 8:34 pm.

Haha...I think you need to put in http://www.sodaplay.com/index.html

...or something like that.

Comment by Recurracy on 27 July 06 at 6:03 am.

OKAY,if you really want the link to sodaplay,i can give you.

http://sodaplay.com/constructor/index.htm?getmodel=display+heartache2

That’ll do.It’s an faulty model link, that’ll allways work.

Comment by Recurracy on 27 July 06 at 6:05 am.

Sorry to double comment…

You should get the model and the sodaplay index in one link.
If it doesnt work for you, check it yourself.

Comment by Recurracy on 27 July 06 at 6:07 am.

jedijedi, it’s still down for some. Please be patient.

What happened to the server?

Comment by leo on 29 July 06 at 3:32 am.

ca mon dear god

Comment by Jimmyjohn on 30 July 06 at 12:55 am.

how do you make them move?

Comment by Christopher on 30 July 06 at 2:08 am.

Christopher - select one of the string-like things and move the corresponding bar on the left up to the place where the wave’s in action…
and everyone else is using the faulty model site, right? or did the server come back up and my comp is just PMSing?

Comment by mju.cat on 30 July 06 at 4:33 am.

EVERYTHING is fine, but soda just (this is what Í think) doesn’t have any time to make http://www.sodaplay.com don’t redirect to here.
And the “stringlike-thing” what you talk about,is a spring, and the moving spring is a muscle.There.

Comment by Recurracy on 30 July 06 at 6:28 am.

this looks cool

Comment by holly on 30 July 06 at 2:49 pm.

Sodaplay.com is up and running again - and though most users should be able to see sodaplay.com again some might still be redirected to this page. Please be patient, this will eventually work as your DNS providers update their records.

Comment by alex on 31 July 06 at 10:57 am.

Just to clarify: “sodaplay.com” is working already (dns has had time to propagate and every DNS server SHOULD have updated) and the error with the address “www.sodaplay.com” has been fixed and it should be propaged soon (identical server / identical content behind both addresses though, so why not use sodaplay.com straight away...)
