irrepressible.info is one of Soda's Projects, profiled in June 06
Soda have created irrepressible.info for Amnesty International UK. The campaign aims to raise awareness of internet censorship and the role of big businesses in helping repressive governments to control the flow of information to their people.
The idea behind irrepressible.info is to allow people to actively participate and take action against online repression by republishing and spreading content that is being repressed. Users can put a badge like the one you can see at the bottom of this site onto their own web sites, where it will show excerpts from censored sites around the world. The badge links back to irrepressible.info where visitors then can learn more about the censored site in question and the campaign itself.
The campaign was officially launched on the 28th of May by the Observer and Amnesty. Within the first 2 days 15000 people signed the prominently featured pledge surpassing all expectations by far. The site has been featured on digg, slashdot and appeared on del.icio.us’ most popular.
According to Alexa it is even ranked among the 5000 most popular websites. It receives an ongoing coverage from the blog sphere which can be observed via Technorati.
This campaign was conceived and realised by Soda for Amnesty International, supported by the Observer and OpenNet Initiative.

I am getting info about “Star Trek” in my irrepressible.info box. A snippet from this link showed up today: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4994564.stm
This is not the type of censored material I had hoped to have on my web site.
I am going to remove irrepressible.info from my site.
It is a pity to lose you as a supporter but the database of fragments appearing in the banners has been choosen to show a diverse range of information that is censored somewhere in the world. These are not necessarily the obvious targets we might expect them to be.
I have been trying to make irrepressible.Info work in myspace, but its not. any ideas?
I am afraid myspace does not support the system we are using so you can not add the fragments to myspace at the moment. You should however be able to use the RSS Feeds to integrate the fragments with a third party tool.
