Profile of David Muth, Artist, Musician, Educator

image David Muth’s approach to making things combines the conceptual and the experimental and is informed by his background in music and architecture. His projects range from responsive installations and technology driven performance environments, through video and experimental documentary, to composition and performance of music.

We are Car”, a recent collaboration with Chris Lum aka XperXr, utilised a running motorbike engine controlled via MIDI as a musical instrument in order to record and subvert selected Rock classics, exploring parallels between emotional thrills induced by acceleration, speed and Rock. Other excursions into the world of Rock and Pop led to the formation of pseudo-pop band Omo together with Berit Immig in 2004. Bringing together both programming and music making, David has been undertaking research utilising Sodaconstructor as a playful audio controller. This exploration eventually resulted in Sodaconstuctor’s sonic sibling Sodaconductor.

David currently lectures at the Royal College of Art and Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, and is part of Kaffe Matthew’s NESTA funded interdisciplinary research initiative “Music for Bodies”.
