Fiddian Warman
21st July, 1963 – 18th October, 2024
We are sad to announce that Fiddian Warman, co-founder of Soda, died unexpectedly on 18th October, due to complications caused by undiagnosed non Hodgkin lymphoma. A memorial service will be held in London at a future date.
Fiddian studied biology, ceramics, sculpture and fine art, and worked as a carpenter for several years before completing an MA in Digital Art at Middlesex University and co-founding SoDA (Society of Digital Artists) in 1997. SoDA was the perfect vehicle for Fiddian’s pioneering creative abilities across varied physical and digital media, and he played a pivotal role in steering the company over nearly 30 years, working with clients such as the Science Museum, Tate, Arts Council England, V&A, 2012 Olympics and Amnesty International.
Over the years Fiddian maintained his own creative practice, working as artist in residence at the Bloomsbury Institute, developing work related to the ongoing climate crisis and mentoring younger digital artists.
Since his move to Cornwall in 2022, he had been working to preserve and reimagine a 400-year-old Grade II-listed house and gardens, using ecological building materials and traditional techniques sensitively combined with modern technologies.
He is survived by his wife, Kirsten, his son, Cyrus and his daughter, Orla. His family and his many colleagues and friends continue to be inspired by Fiddian and intend to preserve his legacy through bold but mindful creative practice.
Who we are
Formed in 1997, SoDA is the Society of Digital Artists: a collective of creative practitioners specialising in fine arts and digital technologies, led by artists Fiddian Warman and Jons Jones Morris.
What we do
We unite the worlds of physical craft with emergent technologies including artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality to inspire, inform and create positive change in society. Our work increasingly focuses on issues surrounding social justice, the climate crisis and sustainability.
How we work
We are practising artists with deep expertise across a variety of physical and digital domains, enabling us to develop complex, multi-disciplinary arts projects. We collaborate with other artists and many of the world’s best-known arts organisations to create sculptures, performances, web and mobile applications and site-specific installation
